As you know by default Fedora 10 does not allow root login to it's GUI interface. The reason behind this Fedora 10 uses pam module called pam_succeed_if.so. This module succeed or fail authentication based on characteristics of the account belonging to the user being authenticated. One use is to select whether to load other modules based on this test. It is this module blocks root login using GUI.

All you need to do is login to the server as normal user.

Open the Gnome-terminal and change to root.
Quote:

Enter the root password for the server in order to become the root user.
Now edit the file /etc/pam.d/gdm (It is recommended to backup the file before you make any modifications into it).
Quote:
[[email protected] ~]# vim /etc/pam.d/gdm

Search for the following line:
Code:
auth required pam_succeed_if.so user != root quiet

Once you have located this line, you need to comment it out (by adding a # in front of the line), making it look like this:
Code:
# auth required pam_succeed_if.so user != root quiet

Save and quit the file.

Logout of the terminal and GUI. You should now be able to login to the GUI interface successfully.
