It is always an advantage to have yum over up2date. Hence it is advised (from my side) to install yum on an RHEL4 machine.

This article will provide the details of it's installation.

The commands/procedure defined below may not work with RHEL3.

Quote:
[[email protected] ~]# mkdir -p /usr/src/yum
[[email protected] ~]# cd /usr/src/yum/

Download the required files using the following command:

Once you have downloaded all the files, you may install them. It is always advised to upgrade rather than install a package when using rpm. So you can use the following command (ofcourse in the same directory where you have downloaded the files):
Quote:
[[email protected] ~]# rpm -Uvh *rpm
