You cannot use chkconfig for FreeBSD, as it is a redhat/fedora utility for configuring the services at startup.

In case of FreeBSD, you are provided with another utility file called rc.conf under /etc. This files contains the services which needs started at the system boot. You can edit this file manually or use sysinstall - a text based GUI tool - to update this file.

So in order enable sendmail at the boot time on FreeBSD, you will have to edit /etc/rc.conf file
Quote:
# vi /etc/rc.conf

and add or append the line sendmail_enable
Code:
sendmail_enable="YES"

save and close the file

Or, use the following command
Quote:
# sysinstall

Select, configure >> startup. Over here you can select the service you wish to enable at system boot.

Once done, hit ok in order to exist.
