HPACUCLI Cheat Sheet

HP Array Configuration Utility (hpacu) is used to manage the HP Array controllers on all HP servers. The utility helps configure all the controller related parameters on the server. HP Array Configuration Utility is available in a GUI as well as CLI mode. The HP Array Configuration Utility Command Line Interface (hpacucli) has many commands which help manage and administer the HP Array Controllers.

The following are a few commands which you can use in order to manage the controller cards and drives.

Important abbreviations in hpacucli

chassisname = ch
controller = ctrl 
logicaldrive = ld
physicaldrive = pd 
drivewritecache = dwc

hpacucli Install

On Linux based machines we can install hpacucli using the rpm available on HP site.

hpacucli Utility Command

We can access the hpacucli prompt using the following command.

[[email protected] ~]# hpacucli

The following command will provide the help details for hpacucli.

[[email protected] ~]# hpacucli help

hpacucli Controller Commands

The following are some of the common commands to administer/manage the controller card using hpacucli.

– Display controller card details.

hpacucli> ctrl all show config
hpacucli> ctrl all show config detail

– Display Controller card status

hpacucli> ctrl all show status

– Enable or Disable write cache.

hpacucli> ctrl slot=0 modify dwc=disable
hpacucli> ctrl slot=0 modify dwc=enable

– Detect newly added devices/drives since the last scan.

hpacucli> rescan

hpacucli Physical Drive Commands

– Display details for all the Physical Drives attached.

hpacucli> ctrl slot=0 pd all show

– Display details for a specific Physical Drives attached.

hpacucli> ctrl slot=0 pd 1:2 show detail

– Display details for all the Physical Drives attached.

hpacucli> ctrl slot=0 pd all show status

– Display details for a specific Physical Drives attached.

hpacucli> ctrl slot=0 pd 1:2 show status

– Erase the Physical Drive

hpacucli> ctrl slot=0 pd 1:2 modify erase

– Blink/Enable the LED for the Physical Drive

hpacucli> ctrl slot=0 pd 1:2 modify led=on

– Blink/Disable the LED for the Physical Drive

hpacucli> ctrl slot=0 pd 1:2 modify led=off

hpacucli Logical Drive Commands

– Display detailed information for all Logical Drives

hpacucli> ctrl slot=0 ld all show

– Display detailed information for a specific Logical Drive

hpacucli> ctrl slot=0 ld 2 show

– Display the status for all Logical Drives.

hpacucli> ctrl slot=0 ld all show status

– Display the status for a specific Logical Drive

hpacucli> ctrl slot=0 ld 2 show status

– Re-enable failed Logical Drive

hpacucli> ctrl slot=0 ld 2 modify reenable forced

Logical Drive Creation

– Create Logical Drive single Disk (RAID 0)

hpacucli> ctrl slot=0 create type=ld drives=1:2 raid=0

– Create Logical Drive with two drives (RAID 1)

hpacucli> ctrl slot=0 create type=ld drives=1:3,1:4 size=500 raid=1

– Create Logical Drive with five drives (RAID 5)

hpacucli> ctrl slot=0 create type=ld drives=1:3,1:4,1:5,1:6,1:7 raid=5

– Delete a Logical Drive

hpacucli> ctrl slot=0 ld 2 delete

– Expand a Logical Drive (Add Drive)

hpacucli> ctrl slot=0 ld 2 add drives=1:3

– Extend the size for a Logical Drive

hpacucli> ctrl slot=0 ld 2 modify size=700 forced

– Add spare drives

hpacucli> ctrl slot=0 array all add spares=1:8,1:9
